It is impossible to rank the attractions in Barcelona, so we will make a top but without 1st or 3rd place. Simply, the most important places for a tourist when they are in Gaudi’s city. Barcelona is a city with almost 2 million inhabitants but almost permanently has at least half of the population brought in by tourists. It is not an exaggeration because not all of them are accommodated here and many of them stay in the resorts around but come to see the city and the wonderful places here.
Barcelona has a huge history and countless attractions. With an extraordinary transport system, numerous subway, bus, and tram lines, bike lanes, and a well-thought-out system to ease circulation, it has a huge number of accommodation options in its hotels. And almost all of them are permanently occupied.
We want to thank those from Barcelona Turisme, who have supported us constantly during our visit here. Both the information and the facilitation of visits were of great help and we could not have seen and presented so much without their help. With their help, you can make your visit to the city much easier and more pleasant. We recommend not only the services offered through the cards but also the services offered by their partners. Muchas gracias!
Leaving these things behind, let’s go to the top of the destinations in Barcelona!
Probably the most beautiful Cathedral in the world. Still unfinished, started in 1882, it rises above all the buildings in Barcelona. Gaudi’s masterpiece, revered in its plans, is a tourist attraction for all tourists. It is visited at a cost and the climb to the high tower is extra. The entrance is made at the established time in the schedule and there is no time limit inside. Gaudi’s tomb is located in the basement of the Cathedral and the interior, although not finished, is absolutely stunning. Prices and schedules are on the La Sagrada Familia website.
We couldn’t put each Gaudi location so we grouped them. Casa Batllo and Casa Pedrerra or Millo are a short distance from each other and can be visited inside. Absolutely fantastic, they offer you the opportunity to understand Gaudi’s masterpieces. In addition to these two, we also recommend Casa Vicens which is also visited and is Gaudi’s first major project. However, this is a bit further from the center. Palau Guell is also a must-see and although it is not a house, it is a masterpiece of Gaudi’s work.
This park, also designed by Gaudi, is a true oasis in the city. With its terraces, mosaics, and sculptures, it offers a panoramic view of the city and the sea. It is located on Carmel Hill and can be visited for free, but the Monumental Area is visited at a cost. We recommend visiting it early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid crowds.
Improperly called the beach, because there are several, easy to reach, clean and wide, with fine sand and entrance to smooth water. Maybe Barcelona is not particularly a beach destination, but if you have time and the weather helps you, it’s worth coming here. As an example, on January 1, people bathed in the sea, and there were not only brave people who did it but also ordinary people who tried their strength to resist. At 20 degrees, it wasn’t a bath in the North Sea, but one in the Mediterranean. In the summer, the beaches are crowded and extremely sought after, especially by the locals.
A small mountain that can be seen from the port and where the Castle of Montjuic is located. It can be reached by cable car or public transport (we recommend the cable car) and from where you can see Barcelona both on the side with the Sagrada Familia and on the side with the port. Besides visiting the castle, you can relax with one of the most beautiful views in the city.
FC Barcelona’s stadium. The visit here, for those who love the royal sport, is an absolute must. A visit includes the museum, one that for the more than one hundred years of the club’s history, is fabulous, the visit to the guests’ locker room, the field area, and the stands of the stadium. If you can, go to a match. It’s worth it!
A hop on hop off bus, with two routes that meet in Catalunya Square. A red and a blue route divides the city in two. One that crosses the side with the port and the other that reaches Park Guell. Obviously, each of them with countless points of special attraction. It is the easiest way to visit the city and is chosen by countless tourists. Discount tickets as well as the route map, on the website barcelonabusturistic.cat or holabarcelona.com.
Using them, we went on both the tourist bus and the cable car that goes to Montjuic Castle.
These are, in our opinion, the most important tourist attractions in Barcelona. But the city offers you much more. You will find them on the way to a certain destination, maybe by chance, or recommended by someone who has already passed by there. You don’t have 3 days to see everything above, but you can choose what is in your area of interest. The distances between them are from a few tens of meters to a kilometer. On foot. You can group the objectives in such a way that you see as many as possible or you can choose and visit only a few of them at your own pace.
What is certain is that Barcelona offers you an explosion of sensations and experiences! You just have to choose to visit it!
