Hunting in Romania

The hunting tradition is a vigorous component of the Romania material and spiritual culture

The originality and diversity of its ways of expression have their origin in the richness of the fauna, specific to the area sustained by the Carpathian arch. The Carpathians have constitutedand continue to represent, in terms of fauna, a fabulous and favored area for the development of animal populations of different species , with vigorous and well represented numbers.

The presence of the great predators, the bear, the lynx and the wolf represents an element that grants the continuity of the natural selection process. Over time, this has consistently ensured Romania s supremacy at major international hunting competitions, through exceptional trophies of chamois, red deer, wild boar, roe deer, to which are added the seeded players in the world hierarchy such as the bear, wolf and the lynx. Almost the entire pallet of the game species specific to the temperate area of Europe can be found in the hunting grounds administrated by the Romanian National Forest Administration Romsilva.

Due to a thorough hunting tradition, growing in specific natural habitats and a continuous natural selection, the hunting in Romania has remained wild and vigorous.

All species of wild animals in Romania are in one way or another protected by law. For this reason, those whose hunting is permitted, have mentioned in the current legislation, the legal periods in which their hunting is allowed, and there are different periods from one species to another. Also, in order to protect the game, the permitted hunting methods are adapted to each game species and to the Romanian hunting and cultural traditions.

Before any hunting party begins, a thorough technical and work protection training is required for the activities to be carried out on the field, regardless of the number of hunters or beaters.

Acces ways, accommodation and other services

Romania is connected to the international air, railway and road transport system.

The National Forest Administration  Romsilva can also provide for the hunting enthusiasts and tourists that are equipped either with guns or cameras, great accommodation conditions in comfortable hunting chalets and houses located in the immediate vicinity of the hunting grounds. The harmoniously combine traditional and specific architectural lines with modern interor facilities to ensure the confort of the tourists.

If requested, we can also provide a specialized field guide, transportation within the hunting ground and a translator. Foreign hunters must have identity papers, gun permit, hunting license, medical insurance and the invitation letter from the Romanian organizers.
