  • Israel is located in the Middle East, along the eastern coastline of the Mediterranean Sea, bordered by Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Egypt. It lies at the junction of three continents: Europe, Asia and Africa.

    Be’er Sheva  (population 195,400), named in the Bible as an encampment of the patriarchs, is today the largest urban center in the south. It provides administrative, economic, health, education and cultural services for the entire southern region.

  • The main forms of public transportation are buses and the national rail service, both offering a convenient, reasonably priced means of travel to nearly every destination in the country.

  • In Israel workdays are from Sunday until Thursday, weekend is friday and saturday. Most businesses are open on Fridays until the early afternoon. before the onset of the Jewish Shabbat, which begins at sundown on friday and lasts until shortly after sundown on Saturday.
  • The domestic currency is New Israeli Shekel. Foreign currency of all kinds may be exchanged at the airport, banks, post offices, most hotels and licensed exchange agencies. Cash withdrawals can be easily made from the many widespread ATMs via international credit or debit card.
  • The Iraeli Ministry of Tourism operates a range of digital services, providing 24/7 up to date information and real-time assistance to all visittors to Israel.   • Tourists visiting Israel, who have purchased items in a value exceeding 400NIS including VAT at stores participating in the VAT refund plan, are entitled to a VAT refund.  Refunds can be obtained at the VAT desk at all international airports and land border crossings.
