Adventure tourism in South Africa

South Africa offers a multitude of adrenalin-inducing experiences of adventure tourism, invariety of natural landscapes including oceans mountains and forests

 

  • Cage diving with white sharks in the Western Cape. Your adrenaline is sure to pump as you come almost face to face with the sea’s most awesome predators. Shark cage diving is absolutely safe and you need not have any diving experience at all..

  • paragliding off Table Mountain, over Cape Town. Cape Town is absolutely magnificent and is an ideal place to enjoy South African paragliding. View the stunning city, winelands, shimmering waters, indigenous forests and the magical Table Mountain from a birds eye view.

  • Mountain biking. In the Magaliesberg, mountain bike trails will take you through the dazzling valleys, rivers and indigenous woodlands.

  • Hot air ballooning over the Magaliesberg mountains. There’s nothing quite like drifting silently over an ancient landscape searching for the Big Five. There’s a dazzle of zebras prancing along; there, a journey of giraffes, there a crash of rhinos. Because you are above the animals, they take no notice of your flight and you can watch them going about their ways undisturbed.

  • Abseiling the world’s largest green canyon: Blyde River Canyon. The unique vantage points that abseiling in South Africa provides you with, will allow you to enjoy uninterrupted views of incredible mountain rock faces, valley and gorges.

  • Quad biking. KwaZulu Natal offers quad biking in the superlative Drakensberg Mountains and valleys. The view is absolutely spectacular! In Mpumalanga you will have the opportunity to quad bike through the beautiful escarpments, grass and wetlands and even the Kruger National Park.

  • Canyoning / kloofing: Favourite kloofing spots in the Western Cape are at Steenbras River Gorge, in Gauteng at the Crocodile River and in Mpumalanga at the Sabie River. The mountains, warm climate, cold mountain water and hard sandstone are the key elements that form the unique river gorges and valleys which make for fantastic and exciting kloofing.

  • Canopy Tours Canopy Tours involve sliding from one high level forest platform to another along a steel cable suspended up to 30m above the forest floor.  KawZulu Natal Midlands tour consists of eight slides, the longest of which is 170m. With this tour, the emphasis is on the forest plants and birds. As well as zooming through the canopy, you also are able to fly above the canopy for a while.

  • white water rafting: South Africa is home to some awesome torrential rivers promising exhilarating white water rafting adventures. Running through the Kogelberg Nature Reserve, the Palmiet River is an absolutely wonderful South African white water rapid and offers fantastic mechanical rafting opportunities and wonderful scenery.

  • Canoeing on Orange River. It’s a long, green-fringed oasis running through the mountainous desert area known as the Richtersveld. Incredibly scenic, it also has a few fun rapids.

  • Bungee jumping: Bungee jumping in South Africa has earned a global reputation for its claim to having the highest commercial bungee jump in the world. Positioned along the gorgeous Garden Route, the Bloukrans Bungee Jump will send you plummeting 216m, headfirst, towards the bottom.Best locations: Bloukrans Bridge on the border of the Eastern and Western Cape.   • Scuba diving:.this is diving in deep ocean. The sea life and intricate reefs you’ll observe when scuba diving in South Africa will leave you reeling in disbelief. The Mozambiquan current that flows down the eastern side of South Africa brings a warm current down this coastline and therefore makes the waters ideal to spot great white sharks, whales, whale sharks, dolphins, turtles, manta and eagle rays,.

  • Snorkelling: this is diving in shallow water. It can be enjoyed all year round, but during winter, water clarity is usually best and offers more sightings, with seals, penguins, sharks, corals, etc. At Sodwana Bay we have the most southerly coral reefs in the world. Here you’ll find the full complement of pretty colourful fishes.

  • Surfing: South Africa boasts some of the best surfing spots in the world, thanks to its superb waves, temperate climate, and sublime coastal scenery, that can be enjoyed throughout the year, from Durban to Cape Town.
